Re: Portable Tie Downs
Several years ago I looked in the EAA website and found directions to make them. I made 3 small plates amd 1/8th X 18 in. rod, three rods per plate, driven into three holes on each plate. Ii like to small rod because its best in the rocky areas. I stll carry them and the ropes in a canvas bag. This ...

Re: Flying to Alaska
I flew to Alaska July 2007. I had never been there and but had wanted to go since I was 8 years old watching all those B-17's, P-38's and P-51's headed north over our farm north of Great Falls during the war. BL was probably at the controls of one of them. Did'nt have a clue to where to go so did a ...

Re: $100 Hamburger NORTHWEST (WA,OR,ID,WY,MT)
The San Juan Islands are a great place to visit for the scenery and the airports close to good shops and eateries. Friday Harbor, Roche Harbor(small landing fee) and Orcus Island airports are only a short walk to town. Lopaz Island has a golf course next to the airport, but it is about 4 miles to th...

Re: 34V flys
I had the opposite problem when I reinstalled the C-145 after OH last year. Oil pressure spiked to the peg. After several tries with different washers, I got it back down to top of the green. I believe your 170 is just a llttle older than my 4026V. I plan on heading your way today and check out the ...

Re: Blind Aviation Enthusiast
Hi Matt, You might check out a site called http://www.pilotsharetheride.com. I came across it a few years ago while looking for a flight assistant when tranporting children for Angel Flight West. It is a free site managed by a rancher named Baldy in Arizona or New Mexico. He came up here to the Nort...

Re: Airform Baffles
Well, I drained the oil and pulled the bulb out of the case and stuck in a cup of boiling water. Temp got to 150 and stopped, so I will get a new gauge. Even with the faulty gage I can tell it is running cooler than the 240+it was running. I can touch the dip stick after shutdown without burning my ...

Airform Baffles
I put in the new baffle last fall at the time I did a top overhaul. The old ones were junkie and had a lot of extra holes and cracks. I had replaced the original temp gauge with a Scott about 10 years ago because it stopped working all together and tested it few years back because of continued high ...

I have a 337 for the the landing and taxi light change for my '48 dated January 1965. The lights are a Super Cub kit. The #6 rib from the outboard end was moved 3 inches inboard to make room for the kit. The part #'s may not be revelent, but here they are. 14502 landing light assembly 12529-3 plate ...

Mine runs just above 4 pounds. As far as I know, it is the original.

Re: Oil change
I have a leak like yours and I believe it is from the generator seal. I put in a new seal last year and it still leaks. I will probably tackle it again next winter and see if I can see what I have been doing wrong. I also have the pull starter and will check that out also. Never thought about it bei...

Continental Motors SIL 98-9
I have my '48 in for annual and doing some much needed repair. I just got a call from the shop that the Inspector said that the last overhaul on the C-145 was more than 12 years ago so it should be overhauled. He indicated that he would sign it off this year, but it should be overhauled next annual....

My 170 is in now for annual and Dave at Northwest Aviation Center at AWO will install mine. About time I got it done, They have been sitting in the hanger for more than a year. After 10 years and 1000 hrs., I took the plane to a shop instead of "do it myself and the inspector dropping by for ap...
