Re: Black Cowling Stains

Last oil change was yesterday, 25 hours past the annual. Thanks for the advice, I'll have them check the compression on those cylinders again.

Black Cowling Stains

Over the last 75 hours or so, I've noticed the exhaust stains on my cowling changing behind the 1-3-5 stack (c-145-2). It's gone from a light brown color to a sooty, coal black (2-4-6 side has remained the same). Immediately behind the exhaust stack there is some oily residue. Annual was just done t...

Re: An old ragwing rides again!

In the paperwork we received when we bought the aircraft, there were several letters from the FAA after the accident. The first was a response to a request from the owner to release the N# as the aircraft was reported "destroyed." The second was a letter responding to the new owner re-inst...

An old ragwing rides again!

After 30 years of languishing damaged in a barn, and most recently my shop, N2520V passed her first annual inspection since 1978 yesterday. She was listed as destroyed after a windstorm flipped her over in October of 78. After just over two years of really hard, but rewarding work, she's finally rea...

Ragwing Rear Strut Bolt Info

Ragwing Guys - Can anyone tell me what type of bolt is used to attach the rear lift strut to the wing? The parts manual lists part no. 0422297, which I've found for the bargain price of $73.00 each. I'm curious as to what makes this bolt so special when all of the other strut bolts are listed with A...

Re: Vert Stab Bolts

Thanks for the info on Airbolt! This guy is great, found me not only the bolts and washers, but someone else with the same needs to split to cost with.
I'd highly recommend this guy.

Thanks again.

Vert Stab Bolts

Need to replace the bolts attaching my v-stab and in searching the forum and looking on the web at genuine aircraft hardware, I wondering if anyone that has done this already has any extra bolts from the package of 5, or washers from the package of 25 they'd like to sell. Part no NAS145-14 supercede...

Tensioning Elevator Cables

The POH for my '48 170 says to tension the cables to 30lbs. What I've noticed is that when tensioning the cable at the bottom of the elevator bellcrank (rear tailcone bulkhead) to the proper tension, the upper cable is well below the prescribed tension and results in slack in the upper cable when th...

Ragwing Strut Fairing

Ragwing guys: When I purchased my basket case 48, wings were uncovered, airplane completely disassembled and damaged. Now that were in the final assembly phase, I'm faced with a dilemma that I'm hoping someone can resolve for me. In addition to the strut cuff fairing for the front lift strut, I have...

Ragwing Flap Control Question

Ragwing Guys - In the 48, the flap system is controlled by a single cable from the flap handle to the rear of the cabin roof where it attaches to two additional cables, one to each wing. What is the attach mechanism for joining these three cables together? Nothing aside from turnbuckles show sin the...

Re: Cowling wear strips

The strips I'm talking about are on the upper cowling, each side, front edge and rear. In my application at least, putting shop heads on the inside would simply have the rivet heads wearing on the boot cowling and nose bowl strips. I would think that this situation would result in relatively rapid w...

Re: Cowling wear strips

I'd considered using countersunk rivets, but the question is what to do with the shop head? I think it would look bad on the outside of the cowling. I've heard there is a method to generate a countersunk shop head as well, but I've got no experience with it. Is this what you did?

Thanks.
