Re: Wondering what this was for?
Mine has a shelf with remote box for one of the radios and the elt back there. Works good as long as you don't want to go with the extended baggage compt. mod. Keeps them out of the way.

Re: Alaska bound.....
Last year I stopped at Quesnel, BC. http://www.city.quesnel.bc.ca/Airport/Airport-Overview.asp Pretty airport with a nice grass camping area and a pilot lounge with shower for something like 6 bucks a night. 55 miles south of Prince George. I flew around SE AK, enjoyed the scenery but found that the...

Re: Rough running engine
I second the leaking intake elbow gasket. We had that on an O200 and thought it was sticking valve. Doesn't run on that cylinder at low rpms because the mixture is too lean but if you push the throttle up it runs okay because the relative added air is no longer big enough to keep it from firing. We ...

Re: Tail stall in icing
It's possible. First they said it dove in- which sounded like a tail stall, now they say it hit flat. I always thought it was prudent to bump up your approach speed if you thought you still had ice on the aircraft. It's worked for me over the years. Now I find out if you've got enough ice on the Hor...

Tail stall in icing
I've been flying for almost 40 years, everything from little stuff to big iron and I've never seen this video. Not too relavent to what we do with the 170 but might help someone on the list. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2238323060735779946 Definitely something you want to look at if you f...

Re: US Air in the Hudson
Anybody on in the 170 group fly A320s? I found this on an internet search about EEC's for CFM56 engines on an A340: Fire and Overheat Protection: Automatic engine shutdown, initiated by the EC when detection of fire or overheat, the philosophy being to avoid failure of EEC components which could lea...

Re: Hand propping can be VERY dangerous ...
They used to do this stuff for fun and photos. The CG is getting pretty far back on this one
Some where out there is a video of an exit where one of the guys on top whacks the tail as he leaves.

Re: Anyone tinkering with HHO Fuel?
When you do a web search for it you get about 100 threads saying how great it is and trying to sell you a system for every response that says that it's a physical impossibility. Amazing mass marketing. Reminds me a little of the "free electricity guy" that sold a generator that made five t...

Re: 2008 Wandering
I hit the weather better at Powers than JrcubBuilder. The temperature was comfortable and it wasn't blowing a gale like at Gold Beach. The only activity at the field was an instructor that brought a student in for his first solo, but decided there was too much cross wind and a guy in a 150 that was ...

Re: Cruising RPM - Engine welfare
We ran our O200 's on the racers up to 4200 rpms but they did break a connecting rod now and then. Of course they were balanced up real good. Did wear out kind of fast at that rpm though. 2600 to 2700 shouldn't put much strain on one.

I just did a write up on the trip so far and managed to have it vaporize, so here are a few photos on my website. I can't figure out how to imbed photos from flickr. http://home.earthlink.net/~slopke/ I've been from Hoonah up to Haines for the 4th. Then back down to Ketchikan and off to Prince Georg...
