Re: Photo Album
Not the best example of a 170B nor the worst, but the old girl still gets plenty of attention when she shows up on a flight line…

Re: Flap Track Replacement
Bill- McFarlane does make an insert for the sandwich style flap brackets. The following is buried in my post above; McFarlane also makes a replacement track for the sandwich flap tracks. The best I can tell, the correct part number for the 170B is MC0523231-14 but check the McFarlane website to mak...

Re: Flap Track Replacement
Too bad that there is not a replaceable wear surface inside the track so that it could be replaced instead of the entire part. Things are just not always as simple as they could be I suppose...

It puts a chuckle in my heart every time I see Bill’s Username...Hineywheel ... LOL. (wish I’d thought of that...) :D I was parked on the ramp one day years ago somewhere in Georgia when a little boy and his dad walked past my airplane and I heard him ask his dad why that airplane has a wheel...

Re: FINALLY! ... A Cold Day in Hell.
Lawrenceburg, TN report: Presently it's 15 deg. F, but it was 7 degrees this morning around 4am. 1/8th inch of ice with about 1 1/2 inches of snow and another 3/16" of ice on top of that. More snow and ice predicted for tomorrow and Thursday, 1 to 4 inches. I'm used to this type of weather in t...

Re: Oil leak....Alternator?
I chased a leak in the same area for the longest time. Changed alternator/tach drive seal at least three times, mag seals, etc. It turned out to be the tach drive housing which had been over-tightened previous to me buying it. If you placed it on a flat surface there was a gap between the three corn...

Thanksgiving flight
Here's hoping everyone had a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving. Sherry, Sunny (our puppy) and I certainly did! We traveled in our 170 from our new home in Middle Tennessee to our old home in Alabama to give Thanks with friends and family. It's a flight of only roughly an hour and a half but it's long ...

Congratulations! A first solo is always exciting but to get to do it in a classic taildragger like a Cessna 170 is even more special!

I thought you might think that about the same time I posted it!
They were definitely low but we made it over the hills and to home this afternoon, although it required a bit of pucker factor.
Keep the videos coming, I always look forward to them.

Looks like a lot of fun!
I wish I was doing that instead of sitting here at Rome, GA watching the rain fall and ceiling getting lower wishing I could cross the mountain to AL and back to TN.

Re: Generator gasket leak
I chased a leak for weeks that I was sure was coming from the alternator seal. Long story short, it turned out to be the tach drive housing was warped from over-tightening or the three mounting nuts. I trued it up by putting some 420 grit sandpaper on a solid surface and working the housing back and...
