Re: Rear seat attach
Miles In order for my rear seat to fit, I always had to put the two side bolts in first, then the front center then the rear, sometimes having to tweak the aft arm. This is the way I've done it, including the tweak. For the tweak, no amount of pushing or pulling would get the aft arm in the right p...

Large numbers are not required unless you are crossing an ADIZ. Is there an ADIZ where you plan to cross?bgiesbrecht wrote: I'm not sure I can fly into Canada, I don't have the big N-numbers.

I don't remember where I saw it but I think I've seen this used on somebody's 170. Might be worth looking into.

Re: What is typical length McCauly metal prop?
Have your prop cover made 80 inches. It's only two inches longer on each end and it will fit either the standard 76 inch prop or the 80 inch "seaplane" prop. You'll never notice the extra length on the shorter prop yet it will fit either prop you may put on the plane in the future.

Re: My "new" airport runabout
I started out saying, "a motorcycle with a sidecar would be a sweet ride around the airport". My better half made it clear that she would not be riding in a sidecar. Dang. She suggested a golf cart.... Sooo... an addendum to the story. A couple of weeks ago we attended a friend's wedding....

Re: What is the planes value?
I have no idea of the value of that airplane but it is my opinion that starting it 2-3 times a year has potentially ruined the engine. I'm sure others will comment as well but moisture is a byproduct of combustion and, unless it gets hot enough to evaporate most of that moisture out, it corrodes the...

Re: Proper shortfield-softfield technique
I remember that video from a couple of years ago. I thought then, and still do, that there is a reason ALL of the participants in the short field contests raise the tail. For some of those guys it's like the Superbowl.... they practice all year for their chance to shine. I suspect they know what the...

Re: Oil Dipstick
I met Frank at the airport today and we were able to answer some questions about the dipsticks. My plane is powered by an O-300D from a 172. I retained my old dipstick from the C-145 from my 170, which is what I use, so I have one of each. Part number 531081 is the C-145 Cessna 170 dipstick. Part nu...

Re: Going to Alaska
Hi Dennis, It is a little early for the sight seeing operators to be running. My buddy who works at Denali Park said they have quite a bit of snow still on their runway. Probably won't be flying off of it until mid May at the earliest. Some of the operators at Lake Hood might be flying though. Check...

Re: Tailwheel Assy ATTACH bolts/nuts
FWIW I had a new steel locknut with nord-lock washers installed and insured the proper torque was applied to my tailwheel bolt recently. I marked it with a sharpie pen and so far, after a few landings, it hasn't moved. I don't know which of the three things corrected the problem bit it seems to be o...
