Re: IPad Mount
I use ForeFlight on an iPad mini 2. I originally tried a full-size iPad on a kneeboard but I didn't like it. Mounting the mini on the yoke would affect handling and make it hard to use IMO. I tried a suction cup mount the the side of the windscreen which worked OK, but I finally settled on mounting ...

Ah, you're right. I forgot about that. They were a useful map for planning.

Re: Wall chart for canada
I don't know of a source for a full aviation VFR wall chart for Canada. Your best bet would be to order a couple WAC charts (E-5 and D-12, 1:1,000,000 scale), as well as the appropriate VNC's/VTA's and the required Canada Flight Supplement (CFS). You can get everything at Aircraft Spruce (https://ww...

Re: New canuck
I went through this exercise two years ago and found that there are very few 170's for sale in Canada, and those you do find are going for a premium. I bought my '53 170B in the US when the dollar was still close to par and I figure I saved almost half the cost of the airframe with all the import co...

Re: Foreflight w&b
Has anyone done the w&b on foreflight looking to get the profile if someone has it. The link below is the Normal Category W&B profile I built for my '53 170B. The fuel is in litres (Canadian...sorry) but everything else is imperial. You'll have to enter your own specific aircraft data but t...

Re: Q
One more question for the foreflight users, is if you subscribe and have it on your iPad, can you use the same account on your phone without paying for 2? :?: From the Firelight FAQ: "The 1-Pilot subscription allows you to use ForeFlight Mobile on 1-iPad, 1-iPhone, and 1-iPod Touch, simultaneo...

Re: Pressure Relief Valve
http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/hapages/an912.php Thanks for the link. That's the reducer I was going to use but wasn't sure of the thread size. I suspect it's a 3/8 thread but I think I'll order the 2D and 5D to cover my bases. I think that this relief valve is a stock part that Cessna has s...

Pressure Relief Valve
I'm updating the old AN vacuum instruments on my 1953 170B and I'd like to retain the existing pressure relief valve. I'm not sure if this was the stock part because it doesn't exactly resemble the drawing in the IPC. It's manufactured by Eclipse Aviation, part number appears to be "B-11EA"...

Re: Old Member, New Owner, Late Introduction
I was working up in the high arctic (northern Ellesmere Island) servicing communications repeaters. It was a long way up and a long way down but spectacular scenery along the way. The 212 is my favourite helicopter. Big enough to be respected but small enough to fly single pilot... And it makes that...

Re: Old Member, New Owner, Late Introduction
Thanks for comments and I'll post some photos when I get onto the new panel project. Funny, I didn't realize that I had a 172 cowling until Aryana mentioned it. I checked the parts manual, and sure enough, it doesn't match the picture for a '53 170B. It must have been changed out somewhere in its hi...

Old Member, New Owner, Late Introduction
Good day all, I've been a member of this site for some time now while I was patiently shopping for a 170B. I found a 1953 'B back in March 2013 but it took over five months to get some paperwork issues sorted before I could sign on the dotted line and then carry out the import process to get it regi...

'53 C-170B Instrument Panel
I've just purchased a '53 170B that is in great shape other than a droopy headliner, non-stock control wheels, and an original panel that was neglected and is missing the original cover plate. The headliner will be changed this winter, the stock control wheels have been sourced, inspected, powder co...
