Re: 8.50x6 vs 8.00x6
http://i62.tinypic.com/fdfsxf.jpg Here you go. 6.00x6 (4 ply) 8.00x6 (4 ply) 8.50x6 (6 ply). However, the 6.00's and 8.50's are air'd up to proper pressure. The 8.00's in the middle are not even mounted on wheels. I'm guessing the 8.00's would be about an inch taller if mounted and air'd up. Tom

Lopez, Could you link the address to the 1993 update. Having difficulties finding it on the FAA website. Thanks Tom Oh, disregard. I think I found it! http://www.airweb.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgstc.nsf/0/B9B2B94CBAD9A32685256CC20058E59F?OpenDocument&Highlight=sa806ce Thanks for ...

Re: Tire Pressure
A couple years ago I switched out my wheel pants and 6:00 by 6's for 8:00 by 6's to do some off road'n. My first landing on a slightly wash boarded out runway quickly made me aware that the tire pressure I was running on the 6:00's would not do for the 8:00's on rough runways. An experienced trailbl...

Re: Tailwheel Springs
This thread has encouraged me to replace my main spring sooner than later. I received it last week from Univair, and am now waiting for the rest of the hardware from Spruce, mainly because Univair didn't have the undrilled bolt required for the assembly. I cleaned up the three shorter springs and th...

Re: Slipping with Flaps
It was mentioned in another thread that slipping with full flaps will blanket the horizontal stabilizer and thus cause a stall. I'm confused as a stall occurs when the angle of attack becomes too great and the wing stops flying due to airflow separation. In order to INCREASE the angle of attack, yo...

Re: airtrac vs condor 8.00 tire
I just put a set of 800's on the 170 for the first time this summer and have been really enjoying them. I'm using Goodyear flight special II because I found an ebay special on one, and then bought it's match from desser. One thing you might want to consider is looking for a tire with the widest rib ...

Re: Engine mounts for Avcon and Del-Air O-360
Dave, When I had my engine overhauled in 2007, I replaced my lord mounts J-3804-28. I got them through Del-Air for $128.40 each. What I don't remember is if I re-used the spacers or not. I know Harry really honors the association when it comes to our cost so let him know your a member. I hope the pr...

Re: Engine Upgrade
My two cents, You stated your plane is a 172 that you want to put a bigger engine in. Not a 170. If you consider the $30,000 do it yourself price as suggested above, or the $56,000 price I last checked from Del Air, I would suggest looking at a trader magazine or barnstormers type web site and compa...

Re: The DOOR STEWARD
For $300+ the door stewards are truly one of the most luxurious items I have ever added to the 170. I installed them myself (w/ IA looking over my shoulder of course) and have been enjoying them ever since I opened the box they arrived in. True you can make the adjustment during installation on how ...

Interesting right side rudder pedals. That's one way to keep you passanger from putting your taildragger on it's nose.

Re: Droop Tips
There has been a covert operation in the past using a completely stock 170-B. A set of extreme droops were installed and flown to experience the difference. The unmentioned test pilots were not impressed. They then replaced one droop tip with one of the original tips. Still no change. When the time ...

Re: Question for 180hp 170 owners or folks familiar w/AVCON
Bruce, I have copies of a couple Avcon STC's for the 170A & B: SA806CE SA749CE Both mention fuel as "91/96min. grade aviation gasoline." and nothing more in the entire 4 page STC. The SA806CE only talks about the electric fuel pump in regards to where the switch placard is to be mounte...

Re: 180 horsepower carburetor help needed
Learaviator,
May not help you with your (KWAD) STC, but on my Avcon conversion with an O360-A1A, the carburetor description # is MA-4-5, and the part # is 10-4164-1.
By the way, the wing vent grommets you sent me have worked out great.
Thanks again.
Tom

Re: Static port leak
Miles, Good to hear from you. Fortunately the guy doing the static check recomended I seal it with something, so I laid a bead of pro-seal around it. This airplane ownership is like full time school, something new every day whether you want it or not. Did you guys make it to Columbia this year? Tom
